France continue to dominate FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series with victory at Voiron Stop

VOIRON (FIBA 3x3 Women's Series) – World No.1 France claimed their fourth FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series title after taking out the seventh stop in Voiron on August 2-3.

Inspired by their home fans, France were unbeaten in Voiron but were made to work against China in a thrilling final. MVP Laetitia Guapo was sensational with 9 points to lead France to a tight 18-16 victory over the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2019 champions.

The only other time France were pushed during a dominant tournament was against France U/23, where they won 11-10. Guapo was superb throughout with 30 points and 15 highlights (3 per game) and she had plenty of support through Ana Maria Filip, who finished with 31 points.

After a tough recent period, Italy rebounded back to form with a third-placed finish and were superbly led by FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2018 MVP Raelin Marie D'Alie, who led all scorers with 39 points and also topped the highlights with 17 (3.4 per game).

The hosts showcased their incredible depth with France U/23 finishing fourth highlighted by a stunning 17-16 quarter-final victory over USA. 22-year-old Victoria Majekodunmi showed her enormous talent with 24 points (4.8 per game) and her teammates also provided plenty of highlights. 

It was a bitter exit for USA, who had high expectations with the inclusion of University of Oregon star Sabrina Ionescu. The 21-year-old showed flashes of brilliance and finished with 19 points (4.8 per game).

In the overall standings, France extended their huge lead with 520 points, almost double China and Italy with 290. Czech Republic (275) and USA (225) round out the top 5.
