Canada chasing third FIBA 3x3 Women's Series win in Montreal

MONTREAL (Canada) - Canada make their return to the Women's Series after titles in Prague and Bucharest at home in Montreal on September 6-7.

Ten in a row. That’s the winning streak the Canadian team brings to Montreal. The squad has not lost since the Prague Stop opener against Russia. After a slow start in the Women’s Series, Canada have been red-hot like the maple leaf on their jersey. They will bring their biggest lineup this week with former Olympians Katherine and Michelle Plouffe. The twin sisters have been unstoppable on the Women’s Series. You might argue the only thing that stopped Michelle was the hand injury she suffered early in the season. Former Canadian basketball internationals Paige Crozon and Catherine Traer will complete the roster. No player on the team is shorter than 6ft 1in (1.85m).

Looking at the standings, the next teams in line are Poland and Romania, who rank 8th and 9th overall respectively. The White and Red will miss Aldona Morawiec aka ‘Kobe’, who suffered a minor knee injury in practice but will feature the rest of the team, which finished 2nd in Prague and 3rd in Bucharest. Romania lost a pair of close games at the Europe Cup but are a dangerous team especially when Alexandra Uiuiu heats up.

Also don’t sleep on Team USA, who came with 3 college stars, including UCLA’s finest Michaela Onyenwere. The Netherlands’ chemistry will be unquestionable as they bring 2 pairs of sisters (the Bettonvils and the Kuijts). Keep an eye on Japan, who finished 2nd in Chengdu in the 1st stop of the season and Switzerland, who will see the return of sharpshooter Sarah Kershaw.

Last but not least, Mexico will make their much-anticipated debut at the Women’s Series in Montreal.
